New healthcare project roles at Keele University
Business Bridge is a new programme of business support offered by a partnership of Keele University and the University Hospital of North Midlands NHS Trust (UHNM), due for launch in January 2017. It is designed to support small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) wanting to grow further or diversify into medical technologies and healthcare markets. Two new roles are currently being recruited:
ERF Calls
The latest Greater Birmingham and Solihull LEP area ERDF calls for project applications under Priority Axes 1 (research and innovation), Priority 4 (low carbon) and Priority 6 (environmental and resource efficiency) have been released. The activities are restricted to assisting businesses in the four South Staffordshire districts (Tamworth, East Staffs, Cannock Chase and Lichfield), but organisations delivering the projects can be from anywhere.

As mentioned in the last update, there is also a low carbon call out in the Black Country, with the same deadline of 17 February.

Innovation Vouchers
Innovation Vouchers are available to eligible local businesses through a consortium comprising of Aston University, Birmingham City University and the University of Wolverhampton. Part funded by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF), it allows small to medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in Greater Birmingham and Solihull, Black Country and The Marches to:
  • Apply for financial support, an Innovation Voucher, worth £2,500 to access external expertise with a knowledge base organisations (research institutes) to support an innovation project
  • Access free support in the form of workshops so that participating companies become more competitive and manage growth effectively
  • Owners and employees of eligible SMEs are invited to attend FREE business innovation workshops as part of the Innovation Voucher programme.

Innovation in Health & Life Sciences Competition Briefing Round 2

Innovate UK is investing up to £15 million in projects addressing technical or commercial challenges in health and life sciences (H&LS) with the aim of increasing competitiveness for UK small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). The H&LS sector focuses on agriculture, food and healthcare. The Edinburgh and Birmingham competition briefing events will have a particular focus on agri-food, but delegates from all sectors are welcome at any event. Read more here.
