Innovation Workshop: Technologies for vascular surgery

Mon, 24 June 2019, 09:30 – 16:30 BST
thestudio, Riverside West, Whitehall Road East, Leeds, LS1 4AW

Translate MedTech, Grow MedTech and NIHR Surgical MedTech Co-operative are collaborating to run an innovation workshop to explore technology solutions in areas of vascular surgery. Through consultations with clinicians, the following areas have been identified as unmet needs that could have potentially disruptive technology solutions.
  • Sensors for early detection of muscle death in diabetic patients
  • Novel vascular stents
  • Spray technologies for endoluminal thrombolysis

The workshop will further explore these clinical needs before going on to develop initial ideas for innovative technologies.
Clinicians, industry representatives, academics from the Translate partnership (Bradford, Huddersfield, Leeds, Leeds Beckett, Sheffield Hallam or York) and anyone with an interest or knowledge in the area of vascular surgery or technology is invited to attend. Attendees will be encouraged to form multi-disciplinary collaborations and project teams during the workshop.

Following the workshop, collaborative teams will be invited to further develop their ideas with support from Translate MedTech and Grow MedTech, enabling their initial ideas to be further progressed before going on to attract additional external funding. New project teams can work with Technology Innovation Managers from Grow MedTech to apply for Proof of Market and Proof of Feasibility funding.

Grow MedTech is a major UK programme providing specialist support for innovation in medical technologies, involving a consortium of six universities across the Leeds and Sheffield City Regions.
We are a collaboration between the Universities of Bradford, Huddersfield, Leeds Beckett, Sheffield Hallam and York, led by the University of Leeds and funded through the Research England Connecting Capability Fund.
By combining the different strengths of our partner universities in medical and related digital technologies, innovation and commercialisation, we are providing capacity and capability in medtech that far exceeds that offered by a single institution.

The NIHR Surgical MedTech Co-operative supports the development of medical technologies in the fields of colorectal, vascular and hepatopancreaticobiliary (liver, gall bladder and pancreas) surgery to improve healthcare and quality of life for patients. We are hosted by the Leeds Teaching Hospitals, the second biggest healthcare provider in the UK, working closely with the University of Leeds, a leading UK University with strengths in biomedical research.
