NIHR PHR Programme: New commissioned calls
Details: The Public Health Research (PHR) Programme funds research to generate evidence to inform the delivery of non-NHS interventions intended to improve the health of the public and reduce inequalities in health.

The PHR Programme are accepting stage 1 applications to the following commissioned topics:

The NIHR will be holding a webinar to support applications to 19/106 Changes to the welfare system and 19/107 Health effects of onshore oil and gas exploitation on Friday 25 October 2019, 15:00-16:00.

ESRC: Future leaders fellowship
Details: The UKRI Future Leaders Fellowship scheme (FLF) aims to develop, retain, attract and sustain research and innovation talent in the UK.

The objectives of the Future Leaders Fellowships are:
  • to develop, retain, attract and sustain research and innovation talent in the UK
  • to foster new research and innovation career paths including those at the academic/business and interdisciplinary boundaries, and facilitate movement of people between sectors
  • to provide sustained funding and resources for the best early career researchers and innovators
  • to provide long-term, flexible funding to tackle difficult and novel challenges, and support adventurous, ambitious programmes

CRUK: Children and young people cancer innovation award
Details: The CRUK Children and Young People’s Cancer Innovation Award is a new initiative to support novel and innovative approaches to childhood cancer research. These awards are intended to stimulate new activity and collaborations, and to build capacity within UK paediatric cancer research. Projects should be focused on transforming our understanding of paediatric tumour biology and developing innovative new ways to treat, detect and prevent these diseases.

Versus Arthritis: Pre-call announcement for NIHR PGfAR Chronic Pain theme
Details: Versus Arthritis are partnering with the NIHR Programme Grants for Applied Research on the cross-programme themed-call in the management of chronic pain to address Pain Roadmap priorities in disease management and applied health research. Co-funding is available for appropriate studies in the Programme Grants for Applied Research chronic pain themed call round being opened in 2019 and 2020. This funding scheme will support programmes made up of an interrelated group of projects focused on a coherent theme which requires multidisciplinary approaches, including clinical, health economics, statistics, qualitative and behavioural sciences, to ensure that the research objectives can be met.
