There are now three new categories for the 2019 Patient Safety Awards showcasing your pioneering new technologies, successful partnerships and original ideas.
These categories are open to private enterprise as well as the NHS and partnerships between the two.

WMAHSN Industry Innovation Gateway 
  • The WMAHSN Industry Innovation Gateway, delivered by Medilink WM, acts as a single point of entry for all medical/health technology and life science businesses who wish to engage with the WMAHSN. 
  • With comprehensive networks across the health and life science sector, the Industry Innovation Gateway provides essential connectivity to the business, clinical, academic, regulatory and finance communities, helping businesses to form new collaborative partnerships and to navigate the increasing complex health innovation landscape. 
  • Meridian is WMAHSN’s interactive online innovation health exchange designed to support the West Midlands innovation ecosystem, assisting NHS, academic, commercial and industrial stakeholders, and supporting collaborative approach to resolving clinical and service challenges to build a region-wide innovation culture. 
  • If you have an innovative product or service available that has significant potential to benefit both patients and the health service, Medilink WM will look to facilitate your need by assisting with your Meridian Innovation Submission and developing key relationship management with appropriate clinical groups and stakeholders with you, to assist the right innovations to evolve and move forward with the NHS

Biomedical Catalyst 2019 round 1: feasibility and primmer awards
  • UK businesses can apply for a share of up to £3 million to explore and evaluate the commercial potential of a scientific idea to solve a healthcare challenge 
  • The aim of the Biomedical Catalyst is to support the development of innovative healthcare products, technologies and processes. These can include: disease prevention and proactive management of health and chronic conditions; earlier and better detection and diagnosis of disease, leading to better patient outcomes; tailored treatments that either change the underlying disease or offer potential cures

DIATOMIC Second Open Call
  • DIATOMIC provides €1,610,000 in equity-free funding in its Design-Develop-Market program.
  • The call for proposals (Application Experiments) is open until 31st January.
  • DIATOMIC seeks innovative solutions to challenges from health, agrifood, and manufacturing sectors, using electronic components, sensors, smart objects and systems. Through its network of digital innovation hubs, DIATOMIC provides technological support to accelerate application development.

Smart City Expo World Congress 2019 – Call for Speakers
  • The Smart City Expo World Congress is the leading event for cities, the place where the future of cities is discussed and the most inspiring ideas for exploring our urban future are brought to stage. 
  • Since its first edition in 2011, it has succeeded in becoming a referential global meeting point for governments, companies, social entrepreneurs and research centres in order to strengthen capacities, increase collaboration and share inspiration for supporting the improved development of our cities.
  • The 2018 Call for Speakers was a resounding success, with more than 550 proposals from 50 countries, an 80% increase from the 2017 edition.   • The Digital Leaders 100 Awards (DL100) are back for a 7th year! These awards recognise individuals and organisations who demonstrate a pioneering and sustainable approach to digital transformation.

Chamber of Commerce free membership for start-ups
  • The Greater Birmingham Chambers of Commerce currently has a limited number of free start-up memberships available for STEM businesses that have been trading for less than 12 months.
  • These are to help new businesses within the Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths arenas to gain valuable business support and to help with marketing and networking within the region.

The new EU Medical Device & IVD Regulations: Implementation Insights Workshop 
  • The new EU Medical Device Regulation (MDR) is in its implementation phase and will be effective from May 2020. All medical devices will need to comply with this new legislation. 
  • This one day event will provide you with an overview of the key areas likely to need upgrading to comply with the MDR/IVDR; assist you in assessing your company’s current preparedness for the transition; and give you a clear, practical guide to the next steps that you and your company need to take to gain CE Marking under the MDR/IVDR
