Innovation 'Elevator Pitch':
A medical screening technology based on a mathematical model of the autonomic nervous system & physiological systems which has significant potential to improve the cost-effectiveness of primary care
Overview of Innovation:
Strannik technology is based upon a mathematical model of the autonomic nervous system and physiological systems. It meets the key aims and objectives of the EC’s Human Brain Project: (i) to identify what the brain does and how it does it, (ii) to develop a new generation of cognitively-based screening technology, (iii) to understand and adapt with therapeutic effect the multi-level nature of brain function.  This is quite without precedent in modern medicine. The Strannik technology comprises Strannik Virtual Scanning (SVS) and Strannik Light Therapy (SLT).
The technique can be viewed in a demonstration video at the following link: www.montaguehealthcare.co.uk/presentation.php
SVS is a screening technology which has an unprecedented ability to determine the health of the patient i.e. it is able to determine 5-15 pathologies in each of the 30 main organs (including medical conditions for which the current tests are poor or for which there is currently an unmet clinical need), to differentiate between and quantify the extent of the genotype and phenotype in each pathology, and to determine the earliest onset of each pathology from its presymptomatic origins. The technique adopts a methodology more advanced than is currently used in most diagnostic technologies. It is non-invasive and more safe than contemporary diagnostic tests. The results are available in circa 20 minutes at a cost which is estimated to be 5-10 times lower than contemporary diagnostic tests. It presents the opportunity to screen the entire UK population once (or twice) each year for less than £5BN (est £3-4BN) and to reduce the cost of healthcare by an estimated £20BN pa.

The basic methodology, and the scope of this technology, is outlined in a series of 60 peer-reviewed medical papers.

Overview of Innovation:
Strannik technology is based upon an unprecedented level of understanding of how the brain regulates the autonomic nervous system and physiological systems.  This has both diagnostic (as Strannik Virtual Scanning) and therapeutic (as Strannik Light Therapy) significance.

Depression is typical of many medical conditions i.e. it is a syndrome which is characterised by a range of pathological correlates. Moreover there are different forms of depression.  It has been recognised in clinical studies that light-based therapies are often more effective than drugs. The treatment of Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD syndrome) appears to respond to light-box therapy. Nevertheless this relationship between light and conditions such as depression remains poorly understood.

Strannik Light Therapy is based upon the most advanced understanding of the effect of light and colour upon the autonomic nervous system. It has been used to treat a wide range of conditions (see attached list of Case Studies), often in patients which did not respond to classic drug therapy(s).

Depression is a complex multi-pathological and multi-systemic etiology. It is known to respond to light therapy although the idea that one form of light therapy is the same as another is not valid. Neuromodulation therapies have been developed which claim to be able to treat depression.

Strannik Virtual Scanning has been used to determine the pathological correlates of depression. In addition, Strannik Light Therapy has been used to treat depression.  We are confident that depression which has post-natal origins and/or seasonal effective disorder (SAD) syndrome can be effectively treated using Strannik Light Therapy.

Regretably we do not yet have any scientifically validated work which is able to meet your request.

We attach our list of Case Studies - which illustrates how our Strannik technology has been used to treat a wide range of ailments, including mild-forms of depression (SAD). See also attached  Summary of the Technology Landscape re our Strannik technology.

Overview of Innovation:
Strannik is based upon an original mathematical model of the autonomic nervous system. As Strannik Virtual Scanning it enables each patient to have a report of their health and the ability to compare their health each year and thereby assess the progression or regression of pathologies.

Innovation 'Elevator Pitch':
Proven in practice with NHS Pathology Laboratories, Pathology Manager delivers complete document management  support for all pathology process and works in partnership with any existing LIMS, PAS or Order Comms systems.
Overview of Innovation:
Complete Document Management for Pathology Departments to enable access too, and the sharing of information.
A proven scanning, barcode recognition and metadata tagging system for all paper forms used across a Pathology Department with instant retrieval & viewing from a web browser and via integration with any existing Pathology LIMS plus additional options for incorporating all other paper and digitally generated documents.
Developed in collaboration with NHS Pathology Laboratories, Pathology Manager delivers complete document management support for the whole pathology process. It enables the scanning of pathology request forms & paper documents and ingestion of digital files all into one system with intelligent barcode recognition and easy application of metadata plus instant search, retrieval & viewing directly over the organisation's network and from within an existing LIMS or PAS. It is 'plug & play' and very (very) affordable.

Uniquely with Pathology Manager, all documents - scanned paper, digitally generated (e.g. Word), emails, data reports, etc - are seen together via a Single Unified View (simultaneous viewing whatever their file type). And with instant searching, filtering and reporting plus automated alerting, auditing and monitoring, full document management across all pathology activities is ensured.

Pathology Manager works in partnership with existing LIMS (Laboratory Information Management Systems) like Clinisys MasterLab or Winpath, StarLIMS and Telepath (and any PAS) in support of all the pathology processes.

Market ready and adopted - Fully proven, commercially deployable, market ready and already adopted in some areas (in a different region or sector)
WMAHSN priorities and themes addressed:
Advanced diagnostics, genomics and precision medicine / Wealth creation / Digital health / Innovation and adoption / Patient and medicines safety
Benefit to NHS:
Helping Pathology save costs
  • There is no limit to the number or volume of scans generated (i.e. there is no extra 'cost per image' as with most other scanning software)
  • There is no limit on the number of users
  • There is no limit to the volume of documents made available for search & retrieval
  • Instantly reduces paper storage space and improves process efficiency
  • Pathology Manager is significantly more affordable than any alternative whilst providing 'best of breed' features & functionality
Essentially, with Pathology Manager both the Cost of Purchase and the Cost of Ownership are significantly better than any alternative

"Pathology Manager has allowed us to improve the efficiency, accuracy and speed of some of the key services provided by the Pathology Department.  It has provided a highly cost effective, high performance solution to a long standing information management challenge".
